The Sheep (and Llama)

The Shepherd's Corner flock is multi-generational crew of 'southdown' sheep and one guard llama. The sheep provide manure for compost, and help dispose of vegetable waste. They're also valuable as an educational tool, since many people these days may never have seen a sheep before (not to mention know where supermarket 'lamb' comes from).

We do not slaughter the animals, but the coyotes on the property have so such inhibitions. Thus the need for Fernando, the guard llama. Llamas will bond with flocks of sheep, and appoint themselves guardians. And llamas are no push-overs: they will spit and kick when threatened, and their imposing presence makes them an excellent coyote deterrent.
