The Shepherd's Corner Staff

Jane Belanger, OP
Jane grew up in Columbus but has served in many areas - eastern Ohio, Illinois, Connecticut, New York and Minnesota. She has taught grade 2 through college, with an emphasis on Fine Arts. She has worked in retreat ministry and is trained in liturgy and spiritual direction. Jane currently teaches and supervises in the Spirituality Network's Wellstreams program in addition to her work at Shepherd's Corner. Most of her understanding of Creation has come from both her own study as well as years of experience in camping, fishing, gardening, hiking and just being in the natural world. Workshops, retreats, study tours and conferences have allowed Jane to learn about resources, network with colleagues and develop skills.

Melissa Camp
Melissa Camp joined the staff in July of 2002 as the Shepherd's Corner Administrator. Prior to joining "the Corner" she worked as a Naturalist for Columbus Metro Parks and at the YMCA of Central Ohio’s Hoover Y-Park as their Outdoor Education Director and Teen Camp Director. She graduated from Ohio State University with a BS in Natural Resources with a major in Environmental Communications, Education, and Interpretation. When not working on the farm, she enjoys art, reading, gardening and spending time with her husband Todd and their "kids", two dogs, two cats, a short-tailed possum and miscellaneous foster animals.

Carol Krell
While Carol Krell has been associated with the Dominican Sisters for many years, her association with Shepherd's Corner began in 1997 when she brought her gardening experience, drawn by the healthy living, back-to-basics vision of the Corner. Now that Carol has retired after 24 years of teaching at Columbus Academy, the greenhouse on the south side of the barn is where she works her magic with seeds during the cool and cold-weather months. While it is not a typical greenhouse, she manages with heaters, vents, fans, and fluorescent lighting to produce more than enough seedlings for food production in the House Garden, wild flowers, perrenials, and even some seedling trees. Carol moves her operation outside in April when the major planting begins. In the fall she is gathering seeds, drying, sorting, labeling, and preparing garden beds. Her little remaining time is spent ordering seeds, garden planning, reading and research, and readying the greenhouse for the coming planting season.
