Just north and a little west out the back door of the farmhouse on the corner is
the House Garden. Begun the in the spring of 1993, this "raised bed"
organic garden has produced a huge variety of vegetables for the residents of
Shepherd’s Corner.
In addition, this garden provides the fresh, frozen and canned ingredients for many of our programs. Salads, soups and sauces are created for program participants,
volunteers and other guests. It also serves as a learning site for visitors,
especially children.
Depending on the season, there is always a chance to harvest and eat snap peas, carrots, a tomato. The intensely planted garden overflows with a mix of companion-planted vegetables, flowers and herbs. Crops are rotated annually, cover crops and compost are added each year to make this small, but mighty garden a favorite stop on any farm tour.
