Farm Fields

Of our 160 acres, the 60 tillable acres are divided into three 20 acre parcels; front, middle and back fields. These fields have produced hay and fodder for our animals for over a decade. The front field is presently the location of the Hope Sprouts Community Garden, our animal pasture, and our composting operation.

The future of the front field holds the vision of a relocated timber-frame barn that will contain the Shepherd’s Corner administrative offices, conference space, ODA certified processing kitchen, and equipment storage. Once the barn’s footprint has been established, we can incorporate expanded gardening areas into the surrounding landscape.

Presently in hay production, the middle field holds the truly dynamic vision. We have been working with the NRCS and the SWCD in reestablishing the indigenous wetland ecosystem. The entire middle and part of the back field will be devoted to this watershed. The vision includes habitat restoration, native plant reintroduction, boardwalk discovery trails, retention/filter areas for our agricultural drainage, and the source for our garden’s irrigation supply. The balance of the back field will continue with hay production, providing an ample supply to feed our animals through the winter months.
